New EU Listeria regulations require continuous control in production environments
From July 1, 2026, European requirements regarding Listeria monocytogenes in ready-to-eat products will become stricter. For food producers, this means there will be a greater emphasis on demonstrably controlling contamination risks throughout the entire shelf life of a product..
Especially in ready-to-eat products such as cold-smoked fish, soft cheeses, sliced meats, salads and other directly consumable products, Listeria is an important concern within food safety
Micro-organisms are not visible, but within production environments they can have a major impact on hygiene, product quality and food safety. Listeria can spread through the air, droplets and surfaces, for example around conveyor belts, evaporators and other critical zones within the production area.
Even limited contamination can develop into a larger problem during a product’s shelf life, with visible consequences such as product loss, recalls and pressure on delivery reliability and customer trust.
Food safety requirements are not being tightened without reason. The number of Listeria contaminations in Europe is increasing. In production environments where operations run continuously, it is therefore becoming increasingly important to actively keep contamination risks under control.
UVC technology can be used to reduce microbial contamination in critical zones. By integrating UVC disinfection as a dry and chemical-free process into production areas, the risk of spreading micro-organisms can be limited. The risk is particularly high in contact surfaces, such as conveyor belts and hard-to-clean areas like evaporators or machines.
At Bioclimatic, we develop integrated UVC and ionisation solutions for this invisible battle.
Due to the growing number of Listeria contaminations and stricter regulations, it is becoming increasingly important for food producers to take timely action.
As a disinfection partner for machine builders, installers and food producers, we provide continuous disinfection of air, water and surfaces. Bioclimatic is ready for the next step in food safety.
