Custom Photo-Oxidation System for Industrial Air Purification

October 2025

For a client in the high-tech industry, Bioclimatic developed a custom-built air treatment unit that uses photo-oxidation — a combination of UVC light, ozone, and activated carbon as a catalyst — to remove volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the airflow. This technique is particularly effective for breaking down certain organic compounds and eliminating odours.

What is photo-oxidation?

Photo-oxidation is an advanced air purification technology in which UVC light and activated carbon filters work together to break down harmful substances. The UVC lamps convert oxygen into ozone and radicals, which subsequently neutralise VOC and odour molecules. The result: a clean, odour-free airflow – without high temperatures or complex post-combustion systems. In addition, photo-oxidation has a short start-up time; the system is fully operational within just a few minutes.

Project features

Installed in 2024, the system is designed for an air volume of up to 7,700 m³ per hour and equipped with 64 UVC lamps and 128 activated carbon cartridges. The unit is made entirely of stainless steel, ensuring full corrosion resistance. Thanks to its modular design, future expansion is easily achievable. The installation includes a Siemens HD touch panel with full SCADA integration, allowing the client to continuously monitor system performance. All UV components are safely enclosed for maximum protection.
