Project: Custom Disinfection Cabinet for Laboratory Cutting Boards

April 2025

For a client in the ornamental horticulture sector operating a tissue culture laboratory, we designed and built a custom disinfection cabinet. Plant propagation is a manual process that takes place in a strictly controlled cleanroom environment. The cutting boards used in this process must be disinfected regularly (after each batch). Traditionally, single-use hygienic sheets were used and discarded after cutting.

The client conducted field tests using UVC light on glass cutting boards, combined with a liquid alcohol-based cleaning agent to achieve visual cleanliness. The results met their expectations: microbiological contamination was no longer detectable. Based on these findings, the disinfection cabinet was developed.

How this disinfection cabinet works

Glass cutting boards are placed inside the cabinet. Once the door is closed, the two-minute disinfection cycle starts automatically. When the cycle is complete, a green light signals that the boards are ready for use. The cabinet can disinfect two boards simultaneously.

Benefits

  • Minimal use of chemicals
  • Proven microbiological effectiveness, even against highly resistant plant viruses
  • Ergonomic design, compatible with existing workstations
  • Easy to use

Technical Specifications of this disinfection cabinet

  • Constructed from stainless steel
  • Adjustable disinfection time
  • Lamp lifespan: 10,000 cycles
  • Optional UVC LED configuration
