(Engels)

“Levels of fungi growing on insulation within air-handling units (AHUs) in an office building and levels of airborne fungi within AHUs were measured before the use of germicidal UV light and again after 4 months of operation. The fungal levels following UV operation were significantly lower than the levels in control AHUs.”

Faculty of Biological Science and Department of Chemical Engineering, The University of Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

“Operation of UVGI resulted in 99% (95% CI 67-100) reduction of microbial and endotoxin concentrations on irradiated surfaces within the ventilation systems.”.. “UVGI may be a cost-effective method of alleviating work-related symptoms caused by microbial contamination of office ventilation systems.”

“UV light, which continues to be a reliable means of disinfection, involves exposing contaminated water to radiation from UV light. The treatment works because UV light penetrates an organism’s cell walls and disrupts the cell’s genetic material, making reproduction impossible.”

“UV disinfection has been determined to be adequate for inactivating bacteria and viruses. Most bacteria and viruses require relatively low UV dosages for inactivation ...”
